Summary

Trained under the Medical model curriculum, the Advanced Practice Provider functions in collaborative independent practice with pediatrician emergency medicine physicians in a high volume pediatric emergency department that treats over 100,000 patients annually. Autonomously performs patient assessment, diagnosis, and interventions according to approved protocols and scope of practice. Develops and maintains own volume of patients. Shifts are typically 12 hours in length.  A total of six (6) shifts in a two week period of time are typically scheduled.  Provides practice coverage for physician(s) and other advance practice providers during periods of absence. Prescribes a variety of modalities to meet wellness and illness needs, up to and including consultation with sub-specialists, hospital admission, and prescriptive authority.

Education & Experience

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
  • Minimum 2 years of pediatric nursing experience
  • Previous experience in Pediatric Acute Care strongly preferred.

OR


Physician Assistants

  • Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies
  • Two years Acute Care Pediatric experience strongly preferred

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification

  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurses
  • Current Texas professional registered nurse license
  • Current Texas professional advance practice registered nurse license
  • Certified as a FNP or PNP
  • Current Basic Life Support (CPR) required
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required through the American Heart Association (as of October 1, 2019).

OR

Physician Assistants

  • Current Texas professional physician assistant license
  • Certified or re-certified as a PA-C
  • Current Basic Life Support (CPR) required
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required through the American Heart Association (as of October 1, 2019).
